Hello, lovelies! How are you? I am so happy to present you with the interview, that Marcos Valenzuela gave for "Fierce Мannequins"! In my previous post I reviewed his latest collection called "Conquest" and right after that I contacted him. I was so happy when Marcos accepted and I'm so thankful for that. He is such an amazing person! Without further ado I present you the interview with Marcos Valenzuela!
Bobby: Hello, Marcos! It’s an honor for me to have you here, on my blog! You are true inspiration to people all over the world! I cannot describe my fascination with your work! I know all your fans are waiting for this interview so let’s get on to the questions!
Marcos: Hello dear Bobby! Thank you again for your support!! I feel completely touched!!
When did you find your passion for fashion and design?
I found the passion for fashion since I was a little boy, playing with my
sister´s Barbie dolls and watching beauty pageants… Yes cliché… But 100% true!
The couture dresses from the beauty queens where magical, as a matter of fact I
still remember and feel great emotions when I think about those dresses…When I was in my
puberty, my sister got married and I had the chance to have my first tailored
suit, from a great Colombian designer: Lina Cantillo. When I came to her
boutique and she showed me her work, I discovered my affinity to design.
What inspired you to create "Conquest"?
One of my biggest dreams is to see people around the world wearing
Tiberius… the imagination of conquer other countries/markets gave me the hint
to Napoleon.Reading about him, I discovered a lot of inspiring and strong quotes, many
of them made smile… and I was able to identify myself with the passion he had
in life…and this passion moved me and inspired me though “Tiberius Conquest”.
Who is your idol ?
Wooow… I’ve got plenty of idols… in the Fashion world… I adore: Carolina Herrera
How did “Tiberius”
change your life?
Completely!!! actually I came to Vienna to study music…as a matter of fact
I have a degree from the Vienna conservatory as an opera singer… suddenly I met
Karl Ammerer, Tiberius founder (In those days Tiberius was a fetish shop,
specialized in Leather fashion) …He trusted and encouraged me to create the
Label Tiberius, changing completely my life, and offering me the chance to
fulfill my passion for fashion.
People all over the world love your work and collections. Did you
expect that in the beginning of your career ?
Never…!! Because I thought my career was being on stage, singing and
dancing…But my destiny was anotherJ!There is nothing certain in this life… I
believe you have to give always the best of yourself…. Following your dream and
do your thing without the expectation of recognition.My aim as a designer is to
understand my clients, and offer them an honest and authentic vision of my
work.Whatever you do always give it a chance and take a risk… try, discover,
live and love with passion and intensity. If it is your destiny it will
happen!
We can’t get enough of your last collection, presented at “MQ Vienna
Fashion Week 2013” and I’m sure all of us are excited for your future work. Can
we expect new collections in the future?
Thank you!!!!! I have
been working hard in these days…For the Ball-
wedding season we are preparing a little collection, under the name: “Tiberius
Rêve( dream)” The jewelry collection (Tiberius elements: inspired in the four elements
combines with ethnological iconography from Colombian pre-colonial cultures )
is ready. And the next big collection is “Tiberius Structure “
As I said, you are an
inspiration to people all over the world, especially to young designers. What
is your message to the young designers, dreaming to make their own way, into
the world of fashion?
Try…Not just ones!!! But Many times! Be open to
constructive critiques!! Work hard and love what you do. Try to keep your
ego under control. Work focused and with discipline. ..And don´t forget to
have fun!!!
